Buta & Buti started its journey with the hope of putting the beauty of the handmade and the handcrafted back into our homes. In the summer of 2010 we started working with traditional craftsmen and women around the world to create a collection of pieces for the home that celebrated the hand loved and the hand made. The agenda for this collection was to be beautiful, fun, unique and most importantly hand crafted.

The company name comes from the hand carved wooden blocks used in block printing. When the nameless company was working with a traditional block printer in the desert regions of Rajasthan we kept coming across the words ‘buta’ and ‘buti’. We learnt that the most traditional of designs used in block printing is the ‘buta’ or ‘buti’ which means ‘big flower’ and 'little flower'. Later we also discovered that it had the double meaning of ‘budding flower’. This it seemed was perfect. It captured the essence of what we were trying to do – celebrating traditional craft techniques – whilst at the same time encouraging their growth through fresh and contemporary designs.

Like our namesake our suitcase full of beautifully made textiles and fabric samples has grown into a small collection ready to fill your home with. We hope you love it as much as we do.

Thanks for having a look and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions
